It takes two to make a relationship work. In today’s world, however, it seems more and more couples are calling it quits simply because they have a few disagreements.

One statistic states that almost 85% of dating couples will eventually break up.

Many of them stop seeing each other after a just few dates. There can be several reasons for this.

Why Do People Stop Dating?

Some people stop dating because they aren’t compatible.

Others may stop dating because they find out that the other person is seeing other people.

Many just have different tastes in terms of entertainment or lifestyle.

In reality, the actual percentage of relationships that fail is hard to determine.

There are several factors to consider, including the level of commitment that the couple had within the relationship and the length of time the couple was together during the relationship.

Why do relationships fail?

Why do relationships fail

Relationships fail for several different reasons. The majority of relationships that fail do so because the couple simply isn’t compatible.

There are other reasons as well. Some partners are less than honest about their status, while others may be less than honest when it comes to their finances or other important information.

Lack of communication is also a huge factor in the failure of many relationships. You can’t maintain a relationship if you don’t communicate effectively.

If you don’t speak to your partner about what makes you happy or upset, they will never know if they are doing things you like.

Relationships will also fail if there is a lack of trust between the couple. If you don’t know if you can count on the other person, you won’t trust them to be there for you.

Having no trust weakens the foundation of the relationship and will cause it to fail rather quickly.

Sometimes, it’s easier to walk away than put in the work that is needed to save the relationship. Some people are quite lazy and won’t put in any effort at all.

Others are too stubborn to admit they may be wrong or too prideful to be the first one to say they are sorry.

It’s important to consider the factors that go into the making of a relationship.

For a couple to be in a committed relationship, it is expected that they are exclusive with one another. People who go on a few dates aren’t necessarily in a relationship.

Does the chance of breaking up change as you age?

The risk of breaking up will lessen as you age. When you are young, a lack of maturity can lead to issues in a relationship.

You doubt yourself, so you will doubt others as well. You are less likely to trust the other person.

Younger couples are often brought together by looks instead of personality and character.

As they begin to learn more about their partner, they may realize that the only reason they are together is physical attraction.

As you get older, you are more selective regarding who you choose to date. Most do not date for looks. Instead, they are drawn more to a person’s personality and character.

They truly enjoy each other’s company, which strengthens the relationship and makes it last much longer.

Does marriage influence the percentage of breakups?

Does the percentage of breakups change after you get married

The percentage of breakups that occur after marriage will depend on the criteria you use to set the standard.

Many people believe that a marriage license is only a piece of paper and will not have an impact on a couple’s relationship. For some, that is true.

Some couples look at marriage as restrictive and choose not to get married. They claim they don’t need a marriage certificate to prove their love for one another.

They have a point. A relationship that isn’t built on trust, love, and communication will not survive even if there is a marriage certificate to prove the couple is committed to one another.

Is the percentage of breakups higher for heterosexuals or members of the LGBTQ community?

Studies have been performed that indicate the percentage of breakups between heterosexuals and couples in the LGBTQ community are similar.

Both groups have similar issues and must deal with the same personality traits and faults.

Members of the LGBTQ community have access to the same types of counseling as heterosexual couples.

This can help them repair their relationships or, in some cases, make a clean break without causing irreparable damage to one another.

Does cheating always result in a breakup?

Does cheating always result in a breakup

For as damaging as cheating is, it does not always result in a breakup.

Many couples can work past the infidelity if they have a strong relationship and are able to overlook their partners’ indiscretions.

Others who may have had problems in the past with unfaithful partners are less likely to want to work things out with a cheating significant other.

Cheating instills not only a sense of mistrust but also depression when the person begins to feel as if they aren’t good enough.

Many people learn the hard way that if a person cheats once and they get away with it they are more likely to cheat again.

Will counseling prevent a breakup?

In many situations, counseling can help resolve issues and actually prevent a breakup.

Seeking counseling when a relationship is in trouble is one of the best things you can do to solve problems and reinforce the commitment two people have in a solid relationship.

Counseling will only work if both individuals work together and are willing to discuss the issues they are having.

A good counselor can help rebuild the trust and commitment that may have been lost or damaged due to indiscretion.

Does a lack of communication always end up in a breakup?

Does a lack of communication always end up in a breakup

A lack of communication will not always end up in a breakup, but it will definitely strain a relationship.

Learning to share your feelings starts with re-establishing effective lines of communication.

Keeping the lines of communication open is the best way to strengthen and repair a strained relationship.

Communication is the best way to build trust, even if a partner has cheated in the past. Talking through it may be what saves the relationship.

Will having a child save a relationship?

Many people believe that having a child will save their relationship.

The fact is, if a relationship is in trouble before you have a child, there is a good chance it will be worse after the child is born.

If both partners agree to have a child, it may be an incentive to work harder on the relationship.

When a woman gets pregnant in an attempt to keep their partner in the relationship, there is a good chance that the partner will feel trapped.

This can lead to resentment and anger, which will jeopardize the relationship.

Will getting married save a relationship?

Will getting married save a relationship

Just like with having a child, if a relationship is in trouble before you get married, there is a good chance it will be in trouble after you say your vows.

Marriage should not be used as a bargaining tool to save a relationship.

Instead of jumping into marriage, perform a trial run engagement. It’s better to find out that you are not compatible with your partner before you get married.

Finding out after the fact can be devastating for both parties.

What is the best way to prevent a breakup?

The best way to prevent a breakup is to be honest and communicate with one another.

Be considerate of the other person’s feelings and go the extra mile to ensure your partner feels valued and appreciated.

Be willing to give something of yourself to ensure your partner knows you care.

The key to a solid relationship is building a good foundation. Build on trust and be willing to compromise.

It’s the little things that count. Be true to your feelings and also respect your partner’s as well.

Trying to find an accurate percentage when it comes to break-ups is difficult, especially since so many unique factors go into the equation.

We, as humans, are incredibly diverse. We each have our own little quirks that can make relationships difficult.

In order to find accurate numbers, you must be able to factor in all of the subtleties that make each relationship unique.
